Picture Identifier

What is a Picture Identifier?

Picture Identifier. We can use picture identifier applications in almost every circumstance, no matter who or where we are.

Today, visual search is all the rage. However, if you haven’t heard about photo recognition yet, it’s time you did. In regular tasks, a typical image identifier may be an excellent facilitator.

Hence, we can use picture identifier applications in almost every circumstance, no matter who or where we are. Not only that, but it’s not just virtual. Counting the calories in your food, recognizing clothing and wine, and aiding the blind are just a few of the things they perform. A simple picture recognition program is all that is required to verify this for yourself.

How Picture Identifier works

If you want to use a picture identifier application, the first step is to take a photo. So, it should be of any object you wish to have identified. For our experiment, we’ll use fruits as our sample subject.

The next step is to download an image recognition app. There are a few apps that do picture recognition, but we prefer one for our article. This particular program is available on iOS, Android, and as a Chrome extension. So, you can download it here, and it’s called Google Goggles.

Technologies behind picture identifier applications

Picture identifier applications are very advanced, and they’re made possible by a few technologies.

The first is artificial intelligence. Notably, developers use deep learning neural networks. These are what help the app train itself to become better at identifying objects. This is a form of machine learning that allows the app to identify pictures over time.

Two other technologies used by picture identifier apps are:

Computer vision – This is what allows the app to “see” an object in a photo and analyze it.

• OCR – Optical Character Recognition is for reading text in images. Picture identifier apps commonly use it for analyzing business cards and writing on signs and billboards.

Why use a picture identifier?

There are several reasons why using a picture identifier application would be helpful to you, depending on your circumstances.

Some of these include:

• You want to identify the contents of your fridge – If you’re on a diet, this could be useful for you. You can take a photo of food with your smartphone’s camera and analyze it with image recognition software to determine its nutritional value and calories per serving. Or, you can do it fast just by scanning the barcode with your phone’s camera!

 • You want to know what clothing to wear – If you have a special occasion coming up where you’re not sure what to wear, you can take a photo of an outfit or accessory and have it identified for you! It’s swift and convenient this way, and you won’t have to waste time on Google trying to figure out exactly where that sweater or necklace came from.

• You want to learn a language – If you’re taking lessons but still can’t remember how to say something like “the cat eats mice,” take photos of the words with your phone or webcam using OCR technology so that your device can read them for you. Conveniently, some apps like Google Goggles have the ability to both read text and recognize objects in photos!
